Top Digital Agency in Dubai - Yes! But Why the Name Blue Beetle?

Whenever we meet new people, we invariably get asked, "Why the name Blue Beetle?"

Well, there are two versions to this story, the short one (the truth) and the long one (the made-up branding blurb) and neither include a VW Beetle (even though we have one in our office - that's just there to confuse you more 😉).

The Short Version

The name first came about because it met several criteria. When I first started Blue Beetle, it was a one-man band, and Blue Beetle was my opportunity to do what I loved doing - creating interactive experiences.

I wanted a name that was easy to remember and one that was connected to nature somehow because that is where my other passion lies.

Creative by nature

The tagline back then was "Creative by nature", and that is what it was all about—creating eye-catching Flash websites that were more like interactive brochures than anything else.

The double-barrel name and colour association all aid memory, so Blue Beetle came to me while driving one day, and it stuck.

The Long Version

Blue Beetle has moved on quite a bit since then. In 2012 we rebranded and did a brand strategy exercise out of which came the new "official" story.

The new tagline is "Come into being", and this relates to how ancient Egyptians revered the scarab beetle.

Come into being

Popular interpretation in modern academia theorises that the hieroglyphic image of the beetle can be translated as 'to come into being', 'to become' or 'to transform'.

The scarab was linked to Khepri ('he who has come into being'), the God of The Rising Sun.

This is because the ancients believed that the dung beetle was only male in gender, and reproduced by depositing semen into a dung ball.

The supposed self-creation of the beetle resembles that of Khepri, who creates himself out of nothing.

Moreover, the dung ball rolled by a dung beetle resembles the sun.

"Come into being" resonates with us because of what we do; we create from nothing things that help transform our users' impressions and our clients' businesses.

We love to design and create unique interactive experiences that evolve brands, grow companies and make people's lives better. And while doing so, we strive to educate and guide our customers through the digital maze, shining light (as bright as the sun 🤢) to reveal the endless possibilities.
